Brace-Face No Longer Geeky

By Rey Vetangelo

It seems that lasers have always been "cutting technology." They were the coolest light shows in concerts, raves, and other parties. They were the high-class fix it for eye surgery. They are the most accurate cutting tools in the world. They are used in the most effective security systems. They provide the best home entertainment if you own a cat or dog. They are used in art, science, engineering, medicine, entertainment, technology, and so on. They come in a variety of sizes, colors, and strengths.

Now let's talk dentistry. This is a subject most people don't care to discuss in depth. The dentist's office is not the place people want to be. Even for people who have never had painful or negative experiences at the dentist's feel that on principle, they should dislike the dentist's office. It's one of the mutual feelings that bind our society together. It allows us to crack jokes, set the mood of stories, and so on.

One day at a bonfire I sidled up to him. Fortunately, I was born with eyes almost as powerful as his smile. They could reach into the soul of nearly every person. The flicker of the fire enhanced the soul-piercing powers of my eyes and I knew this could be the only chance to learn his secret. My deep brown eyes locked on his bright blue. And when I was sure I had him, I asked for the secret behind his teeth.

Does the problem really bother you every single day? Do you feel self-conscious enough about your teeth that it affects your daily happiness/comfort? Braces can be expensive and painful. Don't just get them on a whim to fix a small problem that nobody notices anyway. Take time to consider how you really feel about it and weigh the benefits versus cost.

Lasers can be used for cleaning, surgery, and other treatment. Cleaning lasers are aimed at bacteria, plaque build-up and other harmful substances. These pen-like lasers vaporize harmful oral intrusions and make cleaning easy and painless.

And what else? I urged him on. Perhaps a little genetic fortune, he admitted. (Although he couldn't say for sure.) I held my lock on his eyes. But there really was nothing more. That was it.

Lasers are much more precise than drills and can preserve more of the healthy parts of the teeth. They also eliminate the uncomfortable and unsettling vibrations that come with drilling. Furthermore, they work faster than drills, both innately and considering that most procedures don't require the numbing of the mouth (which cuts out waiting time).

Of course, lasers have their limitations. In dentistry procedures dealing with defective crowns or amalgam fillings, lasers can cause more problems than solutions. And because they are so new and cool, they are naturally more expensive. But overall, the benefits far outweigh the disadvantages. And as time carries on, procedures will most certainly drop in cost. Visit your dentist in Cottonwood Heights today and see how they can help you with laser dentistry.
