Vital Information That Can Help You Understand Hashimotos

By Dr. Kevin

Hashimoto's Thyroiditis is the inflammation of the thyroid gland. However, that doesn't tell you much, does it? If you're like me, you want to know why it became inflamed and what you can do about it.

It starts by understanding what causes inflammation. The causes can be broken down in to two; an attack by your body, or a case of it being overworked.

If your thyroid is being overworked causing thyroiditis, one of two scenarios is likely...

A) The body has a conversion problem, i. E, it is not converting T4 hormones released by the thyroid in to T3 hormones which are more active.

B) The second scenario is where a body becomes ineffective when it comes to using sugar and fat. It fails to use these energy sources as well as the substitute which is a thyroid hormone.

A scenario such as in the first instance is brought about problems in the conversion mechanism. T3 the active hormone is not present as your body cannot convert T4 in to T3. T3 is what is used by a body to operate.

Where T3 is not enough, a message is sent to the brain asking it to release more T4. Increased production of T4 will lead to a point where thyroid glands get worn-out as they are not able to produce any more T4.

Such an occurrence can cause irritation.

The second scenario that causes thyroiditis is when your body becomes inefficient at using glucose or fat as an energy source.

Immediately this happens, the body has to source for alternative energy sources such as T3. Thyroid glands can only give a certain amount before they become overworked.

Thyroiditis is commonly brought about by Hashimotos.

This is a condition that can best be described as a disorder with the autoimmune system. In an autoimmune disorder, the body will be attacking itself. In this particular case, your body will be attacking one particular part; your thyroid gland.

This attack on the thyroid causes the inflammation. Unfortunately, there is no easy answer to why this happens. However, you should know that there is something you can do about it.

Your doctor will most likely run tests and give you a pill, but this is not a complete treatment. Start by understanding your condition and what natural alternatives are available, including diet.

The pill does not address the underlying problem. The only solution in this case is to consider a change of diet.

Remember, Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an immune system problem. The best way to support your immune system is to give your body the nutrients it needs, and remove any offenders. This is the best way to reduce Hahsimoto's.
